Academic Internship & Field Study Course Registration Checklist

  1. Accept offer.
    1. Develop/update your résumé, tailoring it to the internship description.
    2. Apply.
    3. Interview.
    4. Accept an internship offer.
  2. Request approval.
    1. Read the Academic Internship Program Guide.
    2. Identify a faculty internship advisor within your academic discipline.
    3. Propose internship to faculty internship advisor and request approval to register for an internship course.
    4. If you are an international student, you must meet with the Whitworth Office of International Education before starting an internship contract form.
    5. Meet with your faculty internship advisor to discuss and develop the internship contract.
  3. Complete forms.
    1. Fill out the Internship Contract Form with the information from your meeting with your faculty internship advisor. Toward the end of filling out your contract, you will be prompted to read and agree to the risk assessment and liability waiver.
    2. If you are participating in an international (outside of the United States) academic internship or field study, complete the International Internship Agreement Form.
    3. Print the internship contract.
  4. Obtain required signatures of approval.
    1. Present your internship contract to internship worksite supervisor for review and signature of approval.
    2. If you are an international student, present your internship contract to the Whitworth Office of International Education for review and signature of approval.
    3. If this is a Whitworth Honors Program internship, present your internship contract to the honors program for review and signature of approval.
    4. Present your internship contract to internship faculty advisor for review and signature of approval.
  5. Turn in completed registration forms to career center.
    1. Turn in all pages of the internship contract to the career center for final review and signature of approval.

During your internship, record your hours and activities worked on the Internship Time Log. Keep in mind, at the end of the internship, your internship worksite supervisor will need to review the time log and agree to the hours and activities worked by signing all pages of the time log.
