Faculty Webpage Content & Guidelines
Each regular Whitworth faculty member and administrative faculty member has an official Whitworth faculty webpage. Whitworth visiting professors, instructors and lecturers may also choose to have a faculty page.
Regular faculty members who have official faculty web pages are Track I or II professors appointed to the rank of assistant professor, associate professor or professor.
Administrative faculty members who have official faculty web pages include the provost, the associate provost of instruction, the associate provost of faculty development & scholarship, deans and the vice president for student life.
Each official Whitworth faculty webpage contains the following:
- Photo
- Contact information
- Personal introductory paragraph (optional)
- Education
- Year joined Whitworth faculty
- Areas of specialization/expertise
- Selected publications/projects/honors
- Links to academic activities (optional)
Following is information about the content and guidelines for official faculty web pages and optional pages, as well as contact information for updating faculty web-page content:
Photo
The Whitworth Office of Marketing & Communications covers photography for faculty and staff portraits for use on the Whitworth website and other communications and publications. In order to maintain consistency with our brand and avoid copyright issues, we only use photography that has been contracted by the university.
Faculty and staff portraits are owned by the university and are only to be used for Whitworth-related activities and the promotion of Whitworth. If you have questions about this policy, or if you'd like to arrange a photo session for your department, please contact Associate Vice President of Marketing & Communications Joe Hughes (jhughes@whitworth.edu).
Contact Information
The name, title, phone number, building location, and email address for each official faculty page are maintained by the human resource services office. Only official names and titles are available for inclusion on the faculty web pages. If you need to update your contact information, please contact Lauren Ambrose, senior HR analyst, at lambrose@whitworth.edu.
Additional Sections
After new, regular and administrative faculty members are hired and have been assigned an employee ID number Associate Director of Media Relations Trisha Coder will send an email to the faculty member requesting the required information for the faculty webpage. Once these information fields are populated, Trisha will send the faculty member a link to the page and ask them to review and approve the content. Supporting details about a few of these sections follow:
- Due to space limitations, only the most recent and notable publications/projects/honors are selected for the webpage.
- The courses taught section represents all of the courses that a faculty member teaches, not just those being taught in a specific semester.
- Each official faculty web page allows space at the top for an optional personal introductory paragraph, which is limited to 100 words. An example of a personal introductory paragraph follows:
Leonard Oakland has taught at Whitworth for more than 45 years, mostly English literature and film studies, but also in the Core 250 program. He loves teaching the classical epics of Homer, Virgil and Dante, as well as poetry from 19th & 20th Century Britain and America. He has worked on several Hollywood films and hosted and produced a classical music program on KPBX, the National Public Radio affiliate in Spokane. His Nietzsche lecture in Core 250 is famous enough to draw some students back to hear it a second time. - The optional academic activities links allow regular and administrative faculty members to highlight academic-related information not included in the official faculty page template. Examples of academic activity links include art department faculty linking to their individual online galleries and science faculty linking to their research projects.
To update information in the fields listed above, please contact Associate Director of Media Relations Trisha Coder at tcoder@whitworth.edu.
